This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as we launch our new Café in the new eco-Visitor Centre at Cuerden Valley Park.

We are seeking a highly motivated person looking for their next challenge.

You’ll have a strong track record in catering or hospitality, a passion for great customer service, with the imagination to grow our business.

While we’re putting the finishing touches to the café interior ready for Spring opening, you will recruit and train your team, establish links with local suppliers, and prepare for launch. Thereafter, the successful applicant will be responsible for all aspects of the Café operation, and making it a destination of choice.

About us

Cuerden Valley Park stretches over 650 acres and serves the communities of Bamber Bridge, Leyland, Chorley, Preston and South Ribble. The Park is owned and managed by an independent charity and receives over 250,000 visitors each year.

The new timber and straw bale Visitor Centre aims to be the first in the UK to meet international Living Building Challenge environmental standards and features green technology and sustainable materials. The Café has 36 indoor and 28 outside covers with stunning panoramic views over the River Lostock. We believe the quality of the food and beverage needs to match the quality of the building and its location.

Job Title: Café Manager

Contract: Permanent

Accountable to: General Manager

Responsible for: Café staff

Salary: £22,000 plus performance related bonus

Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week to include weekends and bank holidays

Holidays: 23 days per annum

Pension: 5% of salary paid into private pension scheme provided post-holder contributes an additional 3%.

Job Summary

The Café Manager is responsible for managing and developing the café and hospitality business at the Park. You will work closely with the General Manager and other staff to promote the café and ensure it returns a healthy profit to support the running of the Park.

You will be responsible for the daily operation of catering and hospitality in the Café and Visitor Centre. This includes maintaining and promoting excellent standards of food hygiene and customer care, and delivering great food and beverage.


1.To manage all aspects of the daily running of the café including some food preparation, food and beverage service, clearing and cleaning.

2.To develop and manage relationships with customers, staff and suppliers.

3.To manage effective and efficient staff rotas, hours and holidays.

4.To ensure café staff are adequately trained, are clean and tidy and work in a hygienic manner.

5.To promote the Café and hospitality business through social media, on and off-site marketing campaigns.

6.To ensure that the café and kitchen area complies with Health & Safety and food hygiene legislation at all times.

7.To create a simple eat-in and take-out menu using the facilities available, ensuring correct profit margins are made and the menu responds to consumer demands including vegetarian, vegan and other dietary requirements.

8.To be able to personally prepare and deliver all food and beverage items offered on the menu and lead by example.

9.To ensure the café provides a friendly and efficient service to all customers and ensuring their needs are met at all times.

10.To cater for corporate and group bookings.

11.To ensure that the team have clear knowledge of their role and duties within the café and be able to create excellent rapport and good staff retention.

12.To order and purchase stock, control stock levels and minimise wastage.

13.To prepare end of day financial reports, cash up and account for all sales and purchases.

14.To ensure cleaning and food safety records are kept, and that all equipment is maintained safely.

15.To provide reports and attend meetings with the General Manager and Café Board as required.
